Anhinga

This picture taken at the Anhinga Trail at Royal Palm in The Everglades National Park. The word Anhinga comes from the Brazilian Tupi language meaning devil or snake bird. It is placed in the darter family, but unlike the duck it is not able to waterproof its feathers. Becoming waterlogged and barely buoyant does allow it to dive easily and search for underwater prey such as fish and amphibians; however.
This is ones history lesson for today.

  1. It's cool how nature makes up for deficiencies on one hand to make strengths on others. Neat!
