They Call Her Flipper, Flipper.....
This picture taken at the Dolphin Research Center in Marathon, Florida. It is on the drive on the Overseas Highway between Key Largo and Key West. The Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphin pictured were originally captured by a local fisherman by the name of Michael Santini. Santini was generally regarded as a pioneer in the collection and training of dolphins. I myself have mixed feelings about that.
If anyone is familiar with the movie "Flipper" it was at this site in 1963 that the movie was made and the dolphins used were Santini. In 1984 the site was to become the not-for-profit Dolphin Research Center that it is today.

Every time I see one of these I always think about The Far Side and how he would picture an animal society with humans having to perform tricks for their supper. :-)
ReplyDeleteDolphins, which some scientist think may be as or more intelligent than humans, are probably laughing all the way to supper time. Why forage fro food when someone will feed you for just a few jumps.
