Located in Old Town, Key West, Florida, this building was used as the Winter White House for President Truman for 175 days during 11 visits of his term. The house was constructed in 1890 as the first officer's quarters on the submarine base naval station. In 1911 the house was converted into a single family dwelling. Numerous Presidents have stayed here besides Harry S. Truman including William Howard Taft, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and John F. Kennedy.
This tour was the most interesting for me down in the Keyes....
ReplyDeleteIt seems a little far away for a presidential retreat, no? I guess this was before the dawn of the information age, however.
