Although this concrete replica of a buoy at the corner of South and Whitehead Streets in Key West, Florida claims to be the Southernmost Point in the contiguous 48 states, there are as many as five (5) other points that are further south than this point, none are accessible to the public; however.
This is a huge attraction in Key West. People stand in line to wait to have there picture taken with this concrete cone.
I know it seemed kinda simple to me also....but I guess its the name of the game.....
